Giving thanks to Father for you! A verse we treasure is Psalm 89:8, “O Lord God of hosts, who is like You, O mighty Lord? Your faithfulness surrounds You.” Man demonstrates his might by controlling and mastering others, but God’s might is altogether different; it is tested and proven by faithfulness. Exercising coercive lordship over another is an unmistakable sign of weakness, but to set another free, willingly suffering the consequences as they abuse that liberty, and yet maintaining faithful love, requires the boundless, sustained power of God.
Our daughter Jessica (18) has studied ballet all her life, and a door may be opening for her to audition for Julliard. The meek and gracious strength of God is like a ballerina whose outward performance appears to be weightless, effortless grace but inwardly each and every muscle is being tapped to optimum capacity. In His Son, who sits on the right hand of this meek, self-giving ‘Power,’ our God exercises all His ‘muscles’ in unwavering love to us. Discovering this mighty God who humbles Himself for our sake, we who are so faithless and ‘weak’ are greatly humbled and bow before Him. Meditate on the following verses of Psalm 89:
My faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him….My lovingkindness I will keep for him forever….If his sons forsake…violate…and do not keep…I will not break off My lovingkindness from him, nor deal falsely in My faithfulness. My covenant I will not violate, nor will I alter the utterance of My lips. Once I have sworn by My holiness, I will not lie to David.
In mighty faithfulness God is actively redeeming 35 impoverished, abused women who reside in a slum in Uganda. Father eagerly received these ‘survivors’ of Belial’s domain who had matured as suspicious ‘takers,’ and now, in faithful love, He is meekly earning their trust and transforming them into His generous daughters. At first, in a self-conscious welfare mentality, they cleverly used the ‘hook’ of pity seeking only to get, but now they ask for nothing and lavish us with gifts of things they have made and even food from the very little they have! The precious ‘widow’s mite’ certainly captures God’s attention and deeply touches His heart.
A dear friend, Page Colson, relocated from Tennessee to serve with us in Uganda. She is stewarding the micro-business endeavor among these women, which the Lord began through Suzanne. As these women came to rest in Suzanne and Page’s friendship through developing this ‘business’ together, they were ready to hear and receive the kingdom through the Scriptures. They are eating it up, opening in vulnerability, and bearing the most remarkable fruit! One of these precious women has three sons, no husband, and an advanced condition of A.I.D.S.; she wrote to Page:
“Thank you for your prayers, which has brought blessing and has removed me from shame of people and laughter of people. Your tears poured out that day when you first came to visit me. Your prayers made God to include me and my sons in Vicka’s [our Ukrainian daughter] family, the kingdom family. Your prayers provided me with all I need. I want to assure that my appreciation will not do anything but I hand you over to Jesus who shed His blood for you as you shed your tears for me when I was so sick and He answered your prayer. I am your sister in Christ, Catherine.”
God’s mighty arms of faithfulness are ‘surrounding’ you,
The Mumfords
